| Scouts in Angola are working in partnership with UNICEF to help eradicate polio in their country. This story follows two Scouts, Isa and Carlos, as they encourage mothers in the community to take their children to be immunized. |

| Child labour in Egypt is quite widespread. Scouting offers young people, who have to work to support their families, the opportunity to learn skills and have fun with other young people of the same age. Safety workshops are also provided to make sure that the young people work in as safe an environment as possible. |

| Scouting is offered to young offenders as part of a reform programme. A real Scout programme is on offer, including outdoors, skills training, the patrol system, leadership development and a musical band. It has been running for 16 years and from the 2,000 young people who have participated, none have re-offended, providing a very postive image for Scouting. |

| Ireland is an island, once integrated and now divided into The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom. Scouting in both countries has been working for many years to overcome the conflict, hate and violence which has existed for many years and bridge the divide between the communities, north and south. |

| Peter Kariuki's life changed when he became involved in a Scout project in Nairobi for street children. From living on the streets and sniffing glue he was reunited with his grandmother, returned to school, finished primary school and continued to secondary school where he started up a Scout Troop. He hopes to be able to continue his studies and go to university. All of this is possible because of his contact with Scouting. |

| Through involvement in Scouting and personal contacts, a means of developing low cost housing mortar mesh construction, was transported from Zimbabwe, through Ireland to Kenya. The leaders in Ireland learned the technology, trained Scout leaders in Kenya and the end result was over 200 buildings, from school classrooms to rural clinics, to homes for teachers and community nurses. They were built over 20 years ago and are still standing today. |

| The King of Sweden is Honorary President of the World Scout Foundation. In Sweden he leads a team of former Scouts, all Baden-Powell Fellows, who provide support at all the BP Fellowship events. They are known as The King's Patrol. |

| McKinsey: "BP would be proud of you" In 2001, McKinsey International were selected to lead a study to look at how World Scouting was responding to the challenges facing it at the beginning of the 21st century. The report is a living document, building on initiatives already started and includes actions that will provide "added value" to the support to Scout associations. |

| Today, every adult who is in a position of responsibility with children - teacher, religious leaders, medic, sports coach and Scout leader, holds a great responsibility for the care and protection of the young people in their charge. Some Scout associations have been leading the field in this area in their countries, bringing authorities and other youth organisations along with them. |

| In developing a Strategy for Scouting, thought had to be given to the nature of the World Organization of the Scout Movement - it is not a hierarchical organisation, it is more like a loose network of colleagues, like a family. Some of the people responsible for developing the strategy give their thoughts on its importance and how it will be implemented. |
