Cubs get into learning and fun

The first Brunei Darussalam Cubboree held from 15th to 19th June 2008 at the Scouts Training and Activities Centre was fun and learning for young people ages 7 to 11 years old.

At the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education, Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman, said Persekutuan Pengakap Negara Brunei Darussalam (PPNBD) through its training and activities can develop young people who will eventually become the country’s asset.

PPNBD Chief Commissioner Hj Badar Hj Ali reported that the five-day Cubboree in conjunction with the 75th year Diamond Jubilee of the PPNBD was a success after seeing all the children’s excitement in the activities. He said that to ensure the safety of campers, Scout Leaders were stationed to keep watch of the Cub Scouts. Parents were allowed to visit the camp, giving the event a flavor of a family affair.

The Brunei Times quotes a Malaysian Scout Leader, who was attending an international Cubboree for the first time said, “it was a good opportunity to gain and receive new knowledge through cultural exchanges.” He said that despite some similarities between Brunei and Malaysia there were still some slight differences and they enjoyed what they have experienced and hoped to bring a bigger contingent at the next Cubboree. For the Maldivian contingent that brought 72 participants, some Cubs said they were happy to participate and meet new friends.
