Regional Treasurer cited for 20-year service

Regional Scout Committee Chairman Jejomar C Binay presented the Plaque of Outstanding Service to Dr Renato L Paras at the Coconut Palace, the office of the Vice-President of the Republic of the Philippines. Dr Paras rendered 20 years of dedicated and excellent service as Regional Treasurer of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, Asia-Pacific Region and retired from the position on 1st August 2011.

He was presented with a plaque of appreciation signed by World Scout Committee Chairperson Simon Rhee, Chairman Binay and WOSM Secretary General Luc Panissod who conveyed his congratulations to Dr Paras. He said without whom we would not be where we are today in terms of quality of financial management in the regional office.

Joining Dr Paras in this special occasion is his wife, Aurea, along with the executives and staff of the regional office and Boy Scouts of the Philippines.

Dr Paras will begin another chapter of his Scouting life as Consultant of the Regional Scout Committee which was endorsed by the RSC meeting in Thailand. Chairman Binay presented him the appointment certificate as Consultant to the RSC. With this new assignment, the RSC hopes to make use of his strong financial background and Scouting experience.

Dr Paras is known for his outstanding financial expertise, which contributed immensely to the clear financial management of the regional office, and also for his lively reporting of the region’s financial status during major regional events that always brought a delight and inspiration to the participants around the world.

Outside Scouting, he served as Chief Finance Officer, Treasurer and Member of the Board of Directors of Procter & Gamble for 39 years. Today, he serves as the Chair of the Philippine Ratings and Chemrez Technologies, just to name a few of the several important positions he is currently holding.

In 1999, he was awarded the Accountancy Hall of Fame. Dr Paras obtained his Master of Science in Accountancy in Columbia University (New York) in 1952 and graduated Summa Cum Laude in Far Eastern University in 1949 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce.

With all his success, both in his career and in Scouting, Dr Paras enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren.
