Be active for World Environment Day

From water quality testing in Japan, tree planting in Mexico to clean up campaigns in Algeria, Scouts have been involved in a wide range of projects for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) World Environment Day, which is celebrated annually on the 5th of June.
The theme for World Environment Day 2007 is Climate Change, which impacts each and every one of us around the world.

Scouts are encouraged to participate in projects for World Environment Day on the 5th of June 2007 and are requested to register these on the UNEP World Environment Day website and by .

There are some already well established programmes where Scouts are tackling climate change, including projects from Scouts Canada and Southern African countries through the International Scouting Action on Climate Change (ISACC). Suggestions for developing your own programme activities can be found on the website of Scouts Canada.
More great examples of Scouting and environment projects that are being organised under the Gifts for Peace program can be found on the Gifts for Peace page.

Scouts may like to organise their own environmental Gifts for Peace project or Scouts of the World Environment Base as a way to deliver ongoing projects to help sustain our global environment. What better time to start working towards reducing the impact of climate change than World Environment Day!
