22nd Interamerican Scout Conference
The 22nd Interamerican Scout Conference was held in San Salvador, El Salvador from 31 July to 4 August and attended by 147 participants from 31 countries.
A popular feature was the Social Development Projects Fair in which national Scout organizations displayed a wide variety of community development projects.
The Conference elected five new members of the Interamerican Scout Committee for six-year terms:
- Ronald Castro (34) El Salvador, is a businessman in the catering industry, and chaired the conference organising committee.
- Jorge I Katín H (43) Nicaragua, is news director and presenter at Channel 10 in Nicaragua and president of the Scout association.
- Omar Lugo A. (32) Mexico is an industrial and systems engineer and holds leadership and managerial functions in several multi-national companies; he has been president of his Scout association.
- Luis Sabater N. (44) Dominican Republic, is an engineer who owns and manages engineering and textile manufacturing companies; he is currently international commissioner of his Scout association.
- Nigel Taylor (46) Barbados is a psychologist and an ordained minister of religion, currently in charge of Churches of the Nazarene in both Barbados and Trinidad.
The five members on the committee who are serving their remaining three years welcomes the new officers of the Interamerican Scout Committee. Oscar Palmquist (Brazil) is 1st vice-chairman; Jin Matsumoto (USA) is chairman; Fritz Campos (Columbia) is 2nd vice-chairman and John Neysmith (Canada) and Germán Rocha (Bolivia).
Seven members of the World Scout Committee were present: Chairman Marie-Louise Correa (Senegal), Vice-Chairman Ferran Guimaraes (Spain), Philippe da Costa (France), Ana-Elisa Piubello (Argentina), John Gemmill (Canada), Gualtiero Zanolini (Italy) and Secretary General Eduardo Missoni.
The next Interamerican Conference will be in Ecuador in 2007.
