Re-starting Scouting in Afghanistan
From 4 to 6 July 2003, a meeting took place at the WSB bringing together 8 leaders of the Guild of Former Afghan Scouts in Germany (including their leader Dr. Said Habib, whom the Afghan authorities have entrusted with mobilising support abroad for the rebirth of Scouting in Afghanistan).
Members of several National Scout Organizations also attended: Les Scouts (Belgium), Scouts Canada, Scouts and Guides of Finland, Deutsche Pfadfinderschaft Sankt Georg (DPSG-Germany), Swiss Guide and Scout Movement, Pakistan Boy Scouts Association, The Scout Association (United Kingdom).
Assisting the Secretary General Jacques Moreillon, were Abdullah Rasheed, Mireille Duchoud and Effendy Rajab.
As a result of the meeting, a pre-draft of a 3-year Plan of Action was produced, which should also become a fundraising tool, and which will be finalised by Abdullah Rasheed after he has been to Afghanistan later in July.
All participants felt that they had been actors in a very important event for the future of Scouting in Afghanistan.
