Recipes for managing leaders
If you were running a restaurant, what would you do with a dominant cook, a waitress having burn-out and a menu that is already ten years in place? Doing some changes, taking care of your employees, listening to the chef?
And what do you do with your adults in Scouting? Do you have a plan; does it work; want to share it and learn new methods? Those were the questions to start the discussion and sharing at the Network Meeting on Managing Adult Resources.
The Network Meeting was held from 4 to 7 September 2007 in the St. Andrews Scout Centre near Nea Makri, north of Athens, Greece. 21 participants from 12 countries used the opportunity for extended exchanges, sharing of ideas and experiences on various issues related to how we support our human capital. These included, among others, Motivation and appraisal, Job definition, Mentoring and coaching, Administration, Risk management, Flexibility, innovation, Open-mindness, Quality, Culture in a group, Recognition and motivation, Training, Resources, Management and Leadership.
With a true Scout atmosphere, open minded people, excellent venue, warm weather and delicious Greek cuisine, all contributed to making this event a success and, now, a pleasant memory for all participants.
