Thailand held the third Official SWA Discovery Workshop

The third official Scouts of the World Award (SWA) discovery workshop was successfully held from 22nd to 24th April 2010 at the Scout of the World Award Base located at the Kaengkrachan Riverside Scout Camp (KRSC) with the support of Greenpeace. Attended by 23 Rover scouts and non-scouts, along with three observer leaders and 13 staff, they shared lots of new ideas for SWA, environmental, development and peace issues. The theme for this workshop was “Episode : Strengthening the future by our Hands”.

Since the success of the first and second workshops in 2009, there is an increased number of scouts and non-scouts who would like to be part of this program. KRSC is a Scout camp where the focus is on environmental issues and realising the importance of sustainable development.

Through the workshop, the participants learnt more about our environment and enjoyed the scenery in the Kaengkrachan National Park. They met the Head officer of Forest Department who is responsible for looking after the Forest and all wildlife in Kaengkrachan, the ASEAN Heritage Rain Forest. He also shared ideas of National Park conservation and environment protection. The participants also completed the Climate Rescue station which is the final part of workshop and got it get ready for an outdoor exhibition about Global climate change, Global Warming and alternative energy.

SWA team would like to thank Greenpeace (South-East Asia) and Kaengkrachan National Park - Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for their support for this camp, and also KRSC for hosting the workshop. Photos for the workshop can be viewed from the facebook group 'SWA Thailand’. The next Discovery workshop will be held in July 2010.
