Scouts of the World Discovery trial (United Kingdom)

The Scouts of the World Discovery is a residential experience focusing on the environment, development or peace. For the initial trial it will focus on environment and sustainability, although there will be plenty of opportunity to look at the development and peace aspects of the Award. During the experience, participants will have the opportunity to explore one or more aspects of environmental sustainability, respond to these aspects and decide how they can take action.

You will have the opportunity to look at the work undertaken in this field by organisations such as Severn Trent Water, Alcoa, and The Woodlands Trust, as well as gaining knowledge on different skills such as negotiation, conflict resolution and project management. The Discovery Trial will give you the opportunity to work as a team with Scout Network Members from various parts of the UK on a number of different training projects. You will also be given the skills to plan and take part in the Scouts of the World Voluntary Service, whether this is travelling abroad or working in the UK. You will also get the opportunity to work alongside experts in each of the fields you look at.

The SW Discovery will take place from Thursday 31st July through to Sunday 3rd August 2008, at Youlbury Scout Camp in Oxfordshire.
