UNAIDS

The UN Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) brings together the efforts and resources of ten UN system organizations to help the world prevent new HIV infections, care for those already infected, and mitigate the impact of the epidemic.

UNAIDS aims to create and support a global HIV/AIDS response that includes actors from government and civil society. Cosponsors include UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, UNDP, UNFPA, UNODC, ILO, UNESCO, WHO and the World Bank.

World Scouting already enjoys an official relationship with UNAIDS and their shared interest in combating HIV/AIDS has led to several exchanges on the international and national levels. Together the organisations hosted the Joint WOSM/UNAIDS Seminar on AIDS Prevention in 1997 and in 2001, they issued a Joint Statement in HIV/AIDS. On the state level, they have developed the ongoing HIV/AIDS Programme in South Africa, in which HIV/AIDS awareness education is integrated into the overall Scout programme.
