Level 1 Course (Training of trainers) for the Caribbean

From April 2-6 the Scouts of Dominica hosted the Level 1 Course (Training of Trainers) for the Caribbean.
During four intensive days, 19 participants from 7 different countries “learned by doing” and with group discussions, about different topics, such as: Adults in Scouting Policies: World and Regional levels, Mission and The Essential Characteristics of Scouting, Training Functions: Approach, Why and How- Training and Education Training Methods & Training Aids, Developing and Adapting Training, Developing and Using Modular Training, among others.
Personal development opportunities (i.e. leadership, team work, speaking in public, among others) were also in the agenda.
The course’s Director was Ronald Richardson, Executive of the Caribbeanfrom the WSB-IAR. In the training team were also Rafe Lucado (ISC Member), Edward Henderson (Scouts of Dominica) and Ralf Dillmann (Director of Adults in Scouting of the WSB-IAR).
Of particular importance was the opportunity the participants had to prepare and present to the rest of the group two different sessions: a personal one and group presentations. Both were evaluated by the participants and by the training team, to help the to improve their personal skills in delivering of the sessions and in establishing adequate contents.
At the final stage of the course, a personal assessment was made between each one of the participants and the whole training team, in order to identify and point out strengths and weaknesses to work on.

During the final evaluation, participants expressed their satisfaction about the developed program, venue and in general terms all the organization provided by the hosts. They also stated that the training course was very useful and dealt with matters of outmost importance fortheir personal development and skills as trainers. Great interest and commitment is now in the ways of implementing the knowledge in their associations.
